Abstract

Text in the world of work is means of linguistic actions that directly or indirectly contribute to the value added to a company by supporting, for example production processes or administrative processes. It adds a significant contribution to the performance of tasks. In order to fulfill this objective, text must be of high quality. To evaluate the quality of text it is useful to describe the quality of text from the perspective of the recipient, since perception of quality is always relative to the participants requirements. As the portfolio of corporate text is virtually unlimited and text quality is difficult contextualized as an abstract factor, the text pattern code of conduct is (as a linguistic means of compliance within the company) an example within the presented study. The thesis follows an action-theoretical point of view, takes the text pattern as a holistic concept (Sandig 1996, 1997) and understands the area corporate communications as an interdisciplinary construct Jakobs (2008).The empirical approach of the survey is a qualitative and explorative point of view and combines an expert-centered perspective with an amateur-centered perspective. First of all the text pattern code of conduct is described. An interview study with company staff, in their role as recipients of codes of conduct, allows the reconstruction of evaluation criteria. The main findings affect, inter alia, the identification of the five key quality characteristics of code of conducts. Related sub-characteristics and assessment standards complete the description of the reviewed subject. As a kind of (practice-centered) essence the thesis conducts and formulates design recommendations as well as activity recommendations to ensure a higher quality of the corporate text code of conduct.
