New Energy Grid Structures for the Energy Turnaround

In order to achieve the aims, set by the Federal Government for 2050 for energy system transformation, the number and installed capacity of renewable energy systems must increase considerably in order to continue to guarantee security of supply. To successfully shape the transformation process, far-reaching changes in the existing electrical energy supply are necessary, which will be accompanied and promoted by progressive digitization and increasing sector coupling.

Our contribution

In the first phase we analyze in cluster 2 questions of acceptance of new system structures in the population. In order to ensure the social implementation of the energy system transformation, we plan the creation of storyline-based thematic maps based on expert interviews and survey the acceptance of HVDC underground cable route projects as well as requirements for participation measures for power grid expansion projects.

In Cluster 4 a comprehensive socio-economic and ecological assessment is required to assess the marketability and acceptance of new technologies and systems. Furthermore, the research concentrates on information needs during the smart meter rollout and focuses on questions of data protection and data security.
